Kev Quirk posted a humorous note about selling RAM to pay off his mortgage. It’s both funny and frightening.
I bought a Raspberry Pi 5 with 4GB last year for $66. The current price at Adafruit is $130. The 8GB model is $200.
A 2TB SSD that was a little over $100 at Costco a year or so ago is now $229.
My local electronics store has stopped selling SD cards because they can’t get them at prices their customers would accept. I see some SD cards on B&H Photo that aren’t too overpriced, I may have to get one or two for my Raspberry Pi while they’re still available.
For most of the last 40 years, computing hardware kept getting cheaper, faster, better. That seems to be over for now. One of many reasons to Hold on to Your Hardware.
