This is my first post in response to Robert Birming’s JulyReply2026, a reply to Martin Schuhmann’s 5 Albums.
Martin says, “Introduce yourself with five albums that have shaped you”. I interpret “shaped” to mean: had a long-lasting importance to me for some reason. Not necessarily just favorites, although these are on that list too.
Thinking back, these five stand out for me.
- Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles
- Switched-On Bach, Wendy Carlos
- Close To The Edge, Yes
- The Soul of Mbira, various artists
- Leo Kottke, Peter Lang & John Fahey, compilation
