I started up this version of my website about six months ago. How do I think it’s going so far?
I have some collections of useful links, pages to display some of my animations and graphics, and articles that don’t embarrass me when I re-read them.
I’m still happy with Grav as my CMS. I wanted a simple, minimalist style, and the Hypertext theme I’m using with Grav is close to what I had in mind. Grav’s admin interface is helpful in building pages and managing the site. But when I want to do more with styling, I’ll need to upgrade my PHP skills and learn Twig if I stay with Grav. I plan to test some static site generators as a possible alternative.
Recent updates:
- Created a favicon image, which turns out to be more useful than I thought it would be. It’s just a first attempt, but it will work for now.
- Removed the “green-bar” format for the blog page. It works on the other Links pages, but I didn’t like it on the blog page.
- Added a feed plugin to enable RSS on the blog page.
- Added a blogroll.
To-dos:
- Add graphics, not too many.
- The blog page might need a different format once there are more articles. The site is meant to become a digital garden, and I’d like the page to have a more “garden-y” appearance. I’ll have to experiment.
- Improve the galleries and add photographs. I haven’t been happy with any of the gallery generators that I’ve tried.
- I’m debating adding an email link. Many of the blogs I follow publish an email address, and it’s nice to get in touch with someone directly.
- An alternative is to add a comments section. I didn’t want to deal with comments, but I also see their value on other blogs.
